Best Fall Activities in Prince Edward County

Fall in Prince Edward County has a different rhythm from summer. The beaches are quieter, vineyard rows are changing colour, roadside farm stands are piled with the last of the season’s produce, and a sweater starts earning its place in the car again.
October is especially good for visitors who like being outdoors but would rather not plan every day around heat and beach crowds.
There is still plenty happening across the County, but fall rewards a slightly different kind of trip. For an October visit, these are some of the best fall activities in Prince Edward County worth putting on the list.
See Another Side of Sandbanks
Sandbanks Provincial Park is usually associated with summer beach days, but October gives visitors a different reason to go. The trails move through dunes, forests and shoreline landscapes, and cooler temperatures can make walking much more comfortable than during the hottest weeks of the year.
For 2026, Sandbanks’ regular day-use and camping season runs through October 26. The park also has several guided hikes and nature programs scheduled during October, including programs focused on the dune system, cedar forest and local habitat.
Fall weather beside Lake Ontario can change quickly, so layers and proper walking shoes are more useful than trying to dress for the photo. Before leaving, it is worth checking Ontario Parks for current alerts and operating information, particularly later in the month.
Spend an Afternoon in Wine Country
Harvest season gives an October winery visit a little more context. Grapes are coming in, vineyard colours are shifting and the County’s wine scene feels noticeably different from a busy midsummer Saturday. Prince Edward County now has more than 40 wineries, along with cideries, breweries and distilleries, so there is no need to turn the day into a race between tasting rooms.
A couple of wineries is usually enough for one afternoon, particularly if you want time to actually enjoy the stops. Current hours are always worth checking before setting out.
Shop the Last Weeks of the Fall Markets

October is still harvest season in PEC, which means local food deserves some room in the weekend!
Pumpkins and squash may be the obvious fall purchases, but County markets and farm stands can also turn up baked goods, preserves, honey, artisan products and other things that tend to make the drive home with you.
The Wellington Community Market continues on Saturdays through October 17 in 2026, operating at the Wellington United Church parking lot. The market combines food and artisan vendors, and its final Saturday lines up with Wellington Pumpkinfest.
Farm stands are another easy option when you are already driving around the County. They do not require building the day around a specific attraction, and stopping directly at the source is one of the more natural ways to experience PEC’s agricultural side.
Pick a Fall Event That Fits Your Weekend
In 2026, Wellington Pumpkinfest takes place Saturday, October 17, with its Main Street parade, plus the giant pumpkin weigh-off, vendors and family activities around Wellington.
Visitors arriving later in October have another reason to pay attention to the calendar. Fall Countylicious runs from October 22 through November 15, with 28 participating restaurants offering prix-fixe menus in 2026. It is a good fit for a trip that is more interested in what is coming out of County kitchens than what is happening on a festival stage.
October also brings other arts, nature and Halloween-season programming across PEC, so the current events calendar is worth checking shortly before a visit rather than relying on an old annual list.
Take the Long Way Through the County
A scenic drive may sound almost too simple to count as an activity, but fall is one of the times it makes sense. Loyalist Parkway runs through the County, connecting rural landscapes, communities and stretches near Lake Ontario. The route also carries some of the area’s history, having been named for Loyalist settlers who arrived after the American Revolution.
You do not need to drive the entire route simply to say you did. Use part of it to connect a winery afternoon with Wellington or Picton, then turn off when something catches your attention. October is a good month for those unplanned stops because the scenery between destinations is part of the outing.
Come Back to the Lake
After a day spent walking, tasting, shopping or driving, The Lilac Lakehouse gives the trip a quieter home base by the water. Fall suits the property particularly well because the lake is still part of the view even when nobody is thinking about swimming.

The outdoor cooking area includes a propane BBQ and wood pizza oven, so a market haul can become dinner when the weather cooperates. On colder evenings, heading indoors early is hardly a disappointment. The point of a fall weekend is not to squeeze every remaining daylight hour out of October.
PEC is still busy enough in autumn to give you plenty to do, but it no longer feels like summer is setting the pace. That balance is what makes October such an appealing time to come. Spend part of the day somewhere you planned, stop somewhere you did not, and let the season do the rest.
