One of the best parts of staying at Lilac Lakehouse is how easy it is to step outside and enjoy the natural beauty of Prince Edward County. Whether you're looking for a peaceful waterfront stroll, a quiet forest walk, or scenic shoreline views, you'll find plenty of options within a short drive.

Hikers and a dog walking along a sunlit leaf-covered forest path, with backpacks and bright jackets in autumn.

Many of these walks are easy enough for families and casual hikers, while others offer a chance to discover some of the County's unique landscapes and wildlife. They're perfect for stretching your legs between winery visits, enjoying an early morning outing, or watching the sunset over the water.

Here are a few of our favourite places to explore.

Why We Love Nature Walks in Prince Edward County

Prince Edward County isn't just known for its wineries and beaches, it's also home to beautiful conservation areas, waterfront parks, and nature reserves that showcase the region's diverse landscapes.

From limestone shorelines to quiet forests and panoramic lake views, every walk offers something a little different. Best of all, most of these locations are less than 30 minutes from Lilac Lakehouse, making them easy additions to your itinerary.

Our Favourite Hiking Trails & Nature Walks

Approx. 15 minutes from Lilac Lakehouse

Little Bluff Conservation Area is one of our favourite nearby places for a peaceful walk with incredible views of Prince Edward Bay. The trail winds through mature woodland before opening onto dramatic limestone bluffs overlooking the water.

It's not a long hike, but the scenery makes it one of the most rewarding walks in the area. This is a wonderful spot for sunrise, photography, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment by the lake.

For guests looking for a quieter, more rugged experience, Point Petre Conservation Area is well worth the drive.

Unlike some of the County's more developed parks, Point Petre remains largely natural, with rocky shoreline, open meadow, and excellent opportunities to watch birds and migrating waterfowl. It's especially popular with nature photographers.

There are limited facilities here, so bring water and wear sturdy footwear.

While many visitors come to see the famous lake itself, Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park is also a lovely place for a gentle walk.

Short pathways and open green space provide beautiful views over the Bay of Quinte, and it's an ideal place to pause for a picnic or simply take in the scenery. The nearby Glenora Ferry and local restaurants make it easy to turn this into a relaxing afternoon outing.

It's one of the County's most iconic stops and well worth visiting during your stay.

While Sandbanks is famous for its beaches, many guests don't realize it also offers several excellent hiking trails through forests, wetlands, and towering sand dunes.

The Woodland Trail is an easy family-friendly walk, while the Dunes Trail provides a closer look at one of the world's largest baymouth barrier dune systems.

If you're visiting during the summer, arriving early helps avoid crowds and parking delays.

Located near Picton, Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area offers one of the County's largest trail networks. Visitors can choose from several interconnected trails through mature forest, making it a great option for longer walks.

In winter, the area is also popular for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. It's a great choice if you're looking for a longer outdoor adventure.

Why We Recommend These Trails to Our Guests

One of the things we appreciate most about Prince Edward County is how easy it is to slow down and reconnect with nature. You don't need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy these places - many are short, accessible walks with beautiful scenery just minutes from Lilac Lakehouse.

Whether you're looking for panoramic lake views, peaceful forests, or a quiet place to enjoy your morning coffee before a day of exploring, these are the spots we return to again and again.
