Bottle Returns for a Cause

A small gesture that helps our four-legged friends.

When we first opened Lilac Lakehouse, we knew we wanted it to be more than just a beautiful place to stay.

We wanted it to become part of the community we love.

Prince Edward County has welcomed us with open arms, and from the very beginning, we felt it was important to give something back in a way that felt simple, meaningful, and connected to every guest who stays here.

That's how our bottle return program began.

If you happen to collect refundable bottles or cans during your stay, we'd love for you to leave them behind. Rather than letting them go to waste, we'll take them to the local bottle depot and donate every refund directly to the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward.

It's a wonderfully simple way for each visit to make a small difference.

One family might leave behind a handful of sparkling water cans. Another might finish a few bottles of local Prince Edward County wine after a celebratory dinner around the table. On their own, they may not seem like much, but together they help provide food, medical care, and safe shelter for animals waiting for their forever homes.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures have the biggest impact.

Meet Atticus

Behind this little tradition is one very special cat.

Atticus came into our lives through the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward, and it didn't take long for him to become part of the Lilac Lakehouse family. Curious, affectionate, and always ready for his next adventure, he's the inspiration behind our decision to support the shelter that first brought him into our lives.

If you've spent any time following Lilac Lakehouse on Instagram, there's a good chance you've already met him. Around here, he's affectionately known as "Adventure Attie," thanks to his love of joining us for paddle boarding, sailing adventures, and just about anywhere curiosity leads him.

Every bottle returned helps another animal begin their own happy ending.

Recycling & Waste

When it's time to head home, we've tried to make recycling and waste disposal as straightforward as possible.

Garbage, recycling, and green bins are all provided throughout the Lakehouse, with clear labels and sorting guides to help make separating waste easy during your stay.

Before you depart, we kindly ask that all garbage, recycling, compost, and refundable containers be taken to the Waste Management Centre located just outside the house.

Simply follow the signage, and you'll find a designated place for everything.

Leaving the waste neatly sorted helps our housekeeping team prepare the Lakehouse more efficiently for the next guests and keeps our bottle return program running smoothly.
